Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader With Colby

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College baseball team split a doubleheader with Colby on Saturday afternoon at Pickard Field, losing game one 7-3 before bouncing back in a game two victory, 2-1. The Polar Bears stand at 14-13 (3-4 NESCAC) after the twinbill while Colby moves to 23-6 (7-2 NESCAC).

Game One Highlights
  • A two-run homer by Cole Palmieri gave Colby an early lead before a run-scoring single by Bowdoin's Liam Foley trimmed the Mules lead to 2-1 after two frames.
  • Palmieri plated another run with a double in the third, but Bowdoin tied in the bottom of the frame as CJ Brito-Trinidad delivered a sac fly and Lukas Tsai doubled home Kevin Murray to knot the contest at 3-3.
  • It would be all Colby from there, however, as the Mules tagged on four runs over the final four innings to pull away.
  • Ben McKenzie had two hits and a walk for Bowdoin while Jason Bogdanos struck out eight over six innings in the loss for the Polar Bears.
Game Two Highlights
  • Luca McKerley Coronado tossed a gem in game two for Bowdoin, going 7.0 frames, allowing just a solo home run and scattering three hits to earn the win.
  • Luke Chessie slammed the door from there, tossing two scoreless frames with three strikeouts to get the save.
  • Bowdoin scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, as a Lukas Tsai single scored Chris Dirks for a 1-0 lead early. Dirks then brought home McKenzie with a sac fly in the sixth.
  • Tsai finished with a pair of hits to lead the offense for Bowdoin.
Up Next
  • Bowdoin has a busy week ahead, beginning a resumption of their April 13th game against Bates on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Lewiston.
