Men's Lacrosse Holds Off Late Rally By Bates to Remain Unbeaten in NESCAC

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team held off a late rally to earn a 16-14 win at Bates on Tuesday night. The Polar Bears, ranked 12th in the latest USILA Division III poll, improve to 7-2 (5-0 NESCAC) while the Bobcats dip to 3-7 (0-6 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Tied at 3-3 after the opening quarter, Bowdoin used a six-goal second quarter to take the lead for good.
  • Oliver Bernstein scored twice while Will Byrne scored a goal and dished out two assists in a 4-0 surge before the half to give Bowdoin an 8-5 lead at halftime.
  • Bowdoin opened the third quarter on a 3-1 run to push their lead to 12-6 following a Jason Lach goal at the 4:13 mark.
  • The Bobcats recovered, and scored three times in the final 2:21 of the quarter, and closed to within one goal on three occasions in the fourth quarter.
  • Bowdoin answered every time as goals from Lach, Bernstein, and Sam Raye-Steiner pushed the Polar Bear lead back to two goals and helped seal the win down the stretch.

  • Will Byrne finished with four goals and four assists while Jason Lach had five goals and a helper in the win.
  • Oliver Bernstein added four goals and an assist while Zack Goorno had two assists and seven ground balls.
  • Ethan Barnard won 22 of 33 faceoffs for the Polar Bears, and claimed a team-best ten ground balls.
  • Bowdoin with 2-4 with the extra man and owned a 53-37 edge in ground balls in the victory.
