BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team stormed Colby in a dominant 25-5 win on Wednesday night at Whittier Field. The 12
th-ranked Polar Bears (8-2, 6-0 NESCAC) post their largest margin of victory over the Mules (5-6, 1-6 NESCAC) in 47 years, dating back to a 24-2 win in 1977.
Game Highlights
- There was little suspense in Wednesday's contest as the Polar Bears scored the first four goals of the game, led 5-1 after one quarter, and 13-2 at halftime.
- Seven different players scored in the opening half for Bowdoin and the Polar Bears rolled off a 9-0 run late in the third quarter and into the fourth to push their lead over 20 goals.
- Bowdoin led by as many as 22 in the fourth quarter en route to the win.
By The Numbers
- Will Byrne sparked the offensive outburst, coming one point shy of tying the school record for single-game points with four goals and seven assists.
- Additionally, Byrne (251 points) moved into sole possession of second place on Bowdoin's all-time scoring list, trailing only Tom Ryan '93 (315).
- Sam Raye-Steiner had four goals, while Casey Ryan and Jason Lach each had hat tricks. Matt Ward had two goals and three assists.
- Ethan Barnard won 16 of 23 faceoffs, had seven ground balls and a goal in the victory.
- Jack Pyne had two caused turnovers and two ground balls while Zack Goorno added five ground balls on the day.
- Robert Hobbs made nine saves, allowing just three goals in 51:30 to lead the Polar Bear netminders on the day.
