Polar Bear Defense Dominates as Men's Lacrosse Stifles Williams

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Robert Hobbs made a season-high 20 saves as the 12th-ranked Bowdoin men's lacrosse team stifled Williams in a 14-6 win on Saturday at Whittier Field. The Polar Bears improve to 9-2 (7-0 NESCAC) while the Ephs fall to 6-6 (4-4 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin scored the first three goals out of the gate, but Williams was able to trim the lead to 3-2 at the end of the opening quarter.
  • The Polar Bears took command of the game with a 5-1 run in the second quarter as Oliver Bernstein scored a pair of goals to give the hosts a 8-3 edge at intermission.
  • Williams was able to cut the lead to four goals, 9-5, midway through the third quarter but that was as close as they'd get as a 4-0 surge by Bowdoin, sparked by goals from Jason Lach and Will Byrne, pushed the Polar Bear lead to eight goals with under ten minutes to go.
By The Numbers
  • Robert Hobbs and the Bowdoin defense was stellar, holding Williams to their second-lowest goal output of the year. Hobbs made 20 saves and also had four ground balls.
  • Nate Ryan had three caused turnovers and three ground balls while Harp Lane also collected four ground balls.
  • Jason Lach paced Bowdoin with four goals while Oliver Bernstein had three goals and two assists.
  • Ethan Barnard won 14 of 21 faceoffs and scooped a team-high nine ground balls.

  • Bowdoin will return to action on Monday night at 5:30 p.m. against Amherst in a rescheduled game from March 23.
