BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team dismantled Amherst in a 19-8 blowout on Monday evening at Whittier Field. The 12
th-ranked Polar Bears rolled to their fifth straight win and improve to 10-2 (8-0 NESCAC) with the victory. The 16
th-ranked Mammoths fall to 8-4 (5-3 NESCAC).
Game Highlights
- Bowdoin came out firing and never trailed against a team that ended their season a year ago, jumping to a 4-1 lead out of the gate thanks to a goal and two assists from Will Byrne, and owned a 5-2 edge at the end of the first quarter.
- The Polar Bears extended their lead to 8-4 just before intermission as a late Jason Lach goal gave Bowdoin a four-goal cushion with under two minutes remaining in the half.
- The teams traded goals in the third quarter before Byrne sparked a 3-0 run to close the frame, scoring a man-up goal and assisting on the next two tallies to up Bowdoin's lead to 14-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
- Amherst briefly trimmed the lead to six goals to open the final period but it was all Bowdoin after that as the Polar Bears poured it on, scoring five times in less than eight minutes to push their lead to double figures.

- Will Byrne keyed a potent Bowdoin offense, scoring four goals and assisting on five others in the win.
- Three other Polar Bears had hat tricks, as Jason Lach, Sam Raye-Steiner, and Huck Trafton had three apiece.
- Casey Ryan scored twice with four assists for Bowdoin.
- The Polar Bear defense was outstanding again, as Robert Hobbs finished with ten saves.
- Bowdoin caused 13 turnovers, led by three from Zach Goorno, while Jed Hoggard added four ground balls.

- The win officially secures a home NESCAC Quarterfinal game for the Polar Bears on Saturday, April 27.
