Polar Bears Power Past Beavers on Friday Afternoon

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team cruised to a doubleheader sweep of the University of Maine-Farmington on Friday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears are 20-8 and drop the Beavers to 11-7. Bowdoin won the first game 8-0 and the second game 17-6.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin scored two runs in the first inning and three more in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Chloe Garcia and Elise Sicilian each drove in a run in the opening inning. Garcia cleared the bases in the second to make it a four RBI day.
  • UMF held the Polar Bears scoreless in the third, but Sydney Lang sent a sacrifice fly to left in the fourth and made it 6-0.
  • Bowdoin found two more runs in the fifth inning to end the game. Anika Ewert doubled up the middle for an RBI and Kyle Gary hit a walk-off single to third that plated Ewert.
  • Ewert went 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Gary was 3-for-3 with three runs. Garcia led the Polar Bears with four RBIs.
  • Maddie Current pitched a complete game shutout with four hits allowed and as many strikeouts.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Bowdoin surrendered five runs in the opening inning, but got a pair back in the bottom of the inning.
  • The Polar Bears tied the game in the second with a three-run output and took the lead in the third.
  • UMF got one run back in the fifth, but Bowdoin nearly ended the game with six runs to make it 13-6.
  • Lang hit a walk-off grand slam in the sixth to give Bowdoin a 17-6 win.
  • Ewert was 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Penelope Fong-Picariello went 4-for-5 with three RBI and four runs scored. JK Bradley was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI.
  • Ava Biasotti earned the win with five innings of work and four hits allowed. Biasotti fanned 11 batters with one walk.
