Softball Splits Series with Southern Maine

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team split a Thursday doubleheader against a strong University of Southern Maine team.
 
The Polar Bears (18-8) earned a 6-3 win in game one before falling 3-1 to the Huskies (17-5) in game two.
 
Game One Highlights
  • The Huskies scored in the top of the first inning but Bowdoin tied the game off Chloe Garcia's sacrifice fly to left.
  • Bowdoin took its first lead of the game with a pair of runs in the second. Liv Barrett doubled to right center, plating Ellie Sullivan, and Garcia added an RBI single.
  • Anika Ewert drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the third to make it 5-1.
  • Southern Maine cut into the lead in the sixth with an RBI single, but Bowdoin answered again in the bottom of the inning as Ewert scored on a passed ball.
  • Bowdoin escaped a threatening seventh inning and allowed only one run, despite a one out bases loaded situation.
  • Maddie Current pitched a complete game with ten hits allowed while fanning eight batters.
  • Barrett was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Ewert was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Ewert stole three bases.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Bowdoin found home plate first in game two. Elise Siciliano put the ball in play and allowed Ewert to score.
  • The Huskies took over from there with a two-run fourth and an insurance run in the sixth.
  • Ewert was outstanding with four stolen bases and went 3-for-4 at the plate.
  • Ellie Sullivan went 2-for-3.
  • The Huskies pitcher allowed just one run off five hits. McIntosh struck out ten batters while allowing one walk.
  • Ava Biasotti suffered the loss with seven hits allowed. Biasotti walked five and struck out five.
