BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team posted a perfect weekend with a doubleheader sweep of Hamilton on Sunday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (17-7, 4-4 NESCAC) cruised to a five inning 9-1 in the first game.
JK Bradley hit a walk-off single in the second game to lift the Polar Bears to a 6-5 nine inning win.
Game One Highlights
- Hamilton went ahead 1-0 in the second inning, but Bowdoin played small ball and scored five runs in the bottom half.
- With runners on the corners, Liv Barrett drew the throw to second, paused, allowed Sydney Lang to score from home, and then took second on the throw.
- Kyle Gary laid down a bunt and the Continentals tried to make the play at first, but Gary beat the throw and Barrett scored from third.
- Penelope Fong-Picariello tagged an RBI single to left center and Chloe Garcia added a two-run single.
- In the bottom of the third, both Anika Ewert and Fong-Picariello drove in two runs.
- Kathleen Hester picked up her second win of the weekend with five complete innings and one run allowed off four hits. Hester fanned six batters.
- Ewert and Fong-Picariello each had two hits.
Game Two Highlights
- Hamilton again struck first in the second inning with a sacrifice fly RBI.
- Bowdoin answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning as Fong-Picariello drove in two with a single and Ewert added one. Elise Siciliano sent a sacrifice fly to center that plated Ewert.
- Hamilton chipped away with a run in the third and then tied the game in the fifth.
- With the game in the ninth inning, Maddie Current walked in a run to put the Continentals ahead 5-4.
- Bowdoin answered in the bottom half of the inning. Hamilton earned a quick out, but Garcia walked to put a runner on first. A Siciliano single put runners on first and second and a walk loaded the bases. Bowdoin was down to its final out when JK Bradley singled to right field and drove in two runs for the walkoff win.
- Maddie Current closed out the final 4.2 innings of the game and allowed just three hits and one run. Current fanned five batters.
- Anna Halliday started the game and pitched three innings with six hits allowed.
- Bradley, Gary, and Fong-Picariello all had two hit days. Shea Sullivan walked all four at bats.
