Softball Storms Past Nor'Easters in Series Sweep

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team returned to the win column with a series sweep at the University of New England on a soggy Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears (13-7) cruised to a 12-0 five inning game one victory and 6-3 win in game two. The Nor'Easters fall to 5-15.
 
Game One Highlights
  • Bowdoin scored four runs in both the first and second innings. Chloe Garcia, Anna Halliday, and Sydney Lang all recorded RBIs in the first, while Lang later scored on an error.
  • Garcia smashed a grand slam to right center in the second.
  • Elise Siciliano singled through the right side in the third to plate a run and Lang drove in two with a single to center.
  • Lang hit a ground-rule double in the fifth to cap the game.
  • Halliday pitched four innings and allowed just three hits with a matching strikeout tally. Maddie Current pitched the final inning and retired the side in order.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • After seven shutout innings, UNE finally broke through in the bottom of the third in game two.
  • Bowdoin answered in the following inning off a JK Bradley RBI single to the pitcher.
  • The hosts regained the lead in the fifth, converting on a double down the left field line.
  • Penelope Fong-Picariello pushed Bowdoin back on top with a two-run double to left center. Garcia added two more RBIs with a single to center and later scored on a Siciliano single.
  • UNE scored its third and final run on a wild pitch in the sixth.
  • Current, Ava Biasotti, and Kathleen Hester all pitched for the Polar Bears. Current and Biasotti each fanned two batters. Hester struck out five with a matching number of walks.
