Husson Slides Past Polar Bears in Monday Meeting

BRUNSWICK, Maine -  The Bowdoin baseball team saw its losing streak extend to three with a 3-2 Monday night loss to Husson University.
 
The Polar Bears slip to 10-7 on the season as the Eagles pick up their third victory (3-5).
 
Game Highlights
  • The game moved quickly through as neither team sent more than four batters to the plate in the first two and a half innings.
  • Bowdoin broke through in the bottom of the third as Gabe Peckler hit a leadoff double to left center. Ben McKenzie laid down a bunt that would have left runners on the corners, but a throwing error by the pitcher allowed McKenzie to take second and Peckler to run home.
  • Kevin Murray later hit an RBI groundout to short that allowed McKenzie to score.
  • Husson cut the lead in half with a run in the next inning.
  • The Eagles took the lead in the fifth after a back-to-back singles and back-to-back walks. Kevin Connolly gave Husson the lead with an RBI single to right center to put the Eagles up 3-2.
  • Neither team could find any offensive output through the remainder of the game.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin stranded six base runners over the course of the game.
  • The Polar Bear lineup combined for five hits, with both Peckler and Murray tagging doubles.
  • Sam Sacerdote started the game and pitched five innings with five hits allowed and two earned runs. Sacerdote struck out two and walked three.
  • Ryan Novitski and Connor Cassady each pitched one inning with a pair of strikeouts apiece and no hits allowed.
  • Luke Chessie closed out the final two innings with four strikeouts and no hits allowed.
