Women's Basketball Stings Yellow Jackets, Cruises To NCAA Sweet Sixteen Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team jumped to an early lead and never looked back in a 78-48 win over Baldwin Wallace in the third round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday night in Morrell Gymnasium.
 
The Polar Bears (28-2) advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2019 and will face Smith College at 7:00 p.m. Saturday for a trip to the Final Four. Tickets are available here.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears made quick work of the Yellow Jackets, hitting their first six shots, including a three-pointer from Carly Davey and a jumper from Callie Godfrey that gave them a 13-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest.
  • Baldwin Wallace gained their footing a bit, hitting a pair of three-pointers to cut the lead to 13-6, but that was merely a short respite as Bowdoin rolled off a 7-0 run, capped by a Maria Belardi three-point play that pushed the lead back to double figures.
  • The lead was never in single digits again as Bowdoin led 26-8 after one quarter and extended their lead to 46-22 at halftime.
  • The Polar Bears coasted in the second half and their 30-point margin of victory matched their largest lead of the game.

  • The Polar Bears finished at 52% shooting for the game, owned a 46-29 edge on the glass and scored 16 points off turnovers in the win.
  • A balanced effort saw Carly Davey finish with 16 points, Sydney Jones with 15 points and seven boards, and Callie Godfrey with 14.
  • Maria Belardi pitched in 11 points off the bench for the Polar Bears, who got a team-high nine rebounds from Megan Tan and eight boards and two blocks from Jess Giorgio.
  • Emily Irwin was the lone Yellow Jacket in double digits with 12 as Baldwin Wallace connected on just 24% from the field in the game.
