SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Bowdoin College men's tennis team split four matches against NAIA and Division III competition to close out their California spring break trip this week, returning east with a record of 9-3 (8-1 against Division III competition).
Bowdoin defeated NAIA school Hope International 4-0 but lost a close one to Point Loma (3-4) and Westcliff (4-1). In their lone D-III match of the week, Bowdoin bounced Redlands 5-4.
Weekly Highlights
- Bowdoin trailed 2-1 after doubles play against Redlands, but got straight-set wins from Reid Staples, Andrew Mendelson, and Jack Flores to draw even at 4-4. Tristan Bradley sealed the victory with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 comeback win to push the Polar Bears over the top.
- Against Hope International, Bowdoin swept doubles play to earn the single team point (NAIA rules) and then won the first three completed singles matches to clinch it, courtesy of Flores, Sujan Garapati, and Jackson Codd.
- Against Westcliff, Bowdoin's point came courtesy of doubles wins from Ethan Bradley/Andrew Mendelson (7-6), and Mick Tamas/Aden Dorros (6-1).
- Bowdoin got a trio of singles wins against Point Loma as Codd netted a straight-set win with Staples and Mendelson claiming three-setters.
Up Next
- Bowdoin will enjoy an off week after arriving back on campus and will return to action on Saturday, April 6 at home against Hamilton (11:00 a.m.) and MIT (4:00 p.m.).
