Men's Lacrosse Locks Down Trinity in Season-Opening Win

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team held Trinity scoreless for nearly 29 minutes of game on its way to a 13-6 season-opening win on Saturday afternoon. The ninth-ranked Polar Bears are 1-0 (1-0 NESCAC) this season while the Bantams are 0-1 (0-1 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Trinity came out hot, jumping ahead 3-1 late in the opening quarter.
  • Bowdoin found their footing late in the frame, scoring three times in the final 1:05 to take a 4-3 lead with just six seconds left in the quarter on a goal from Patrick Fitzgerald.
  • After the Bantams tied the game early in the second quarter, Bowdoin rolled off four consecutive goals to take the lead for good, including three from Patrick Fitzgerald, to take an 8-4 edge at the break.
  • Bowdoin extended its run to eight straight goals with a four-goal outburst in the third period – highlighted by three goals from Jason Lach- to put the contest out of reach.
  • Bowdoin entered the fourth quarter with a 12-4 lead and cruised the rest of the way for the victory.
By The Numbers
  • Goaltender Robert Hobbs (14 saves) and the Polar Bear defense locked down the Bantams all afternoon. Nate Ryan added two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
  • Patrick Fitzgerald led the Bowdoin offense with five goals and an assist while Will Byrne scored twice with four helpers.
  • Jason Lach added three goals and two assists and Ethan Barnard won 15 of 20 faceoffs for Bowdoin.
  • Bowdoin held a 16-6 edge in faceoffs for the day, and went 3-8 with the extra man. Trinity went 1-6 with the extra man and goaltender Jordan Opdahl made 19 saves.
