Softball Splits As Spring Break Schedule Continues

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Bowdoin softball team earned a split decision in a pair of games against Cortland and Curry College.
 
The Polar Bears are 4-1 on the young season after dropping a tight 7-6 decision to Cortland (9-1) and bouncing back with an 8-5 win over Curry (7-2).
 
Cortland Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin was in an early hole as Cortland took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added two more runs in the second.
  • The Polar Bears broke through in the third off an RBI single by JK Bradley, sending a ball to right center.
  • Anika Ewert earned a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to double Bowdoin's run tally.
  • Cortland knocked its second homerun of the game with a blast to left in the fourth.
  • Bowdoin scored three unearned runs in the sixth to pull within one of the Red Dragons.
  • The Polar Bears had runners on second and third in the seventh inning but could not plate an equalizer.
  • Bradley was the lone Polar Bear with a pair of hits in the game. Shea Sullivan had an extra-base hit and two RBI.
  • Anna Halliday suffered the loss with three hits allowed and four runs. Kathleen Hester pitched five innings and allowed seven hits and three runs.
 
Curry Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin trailed 2-0 after one inning of action but took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third. Elise Siciliano had an RBI sacrifice fly to left and Sydney Long plated two runs with a homer to left.
  • Curry responded with a two-run fourth to regain the lead.
  • The Polar Bears again answered with a three-run bottom of the inning off an RBI single by Penelope Fong-Picariello and two-run single by Bradley.
  • Curry scored its fifth and final run off a double in the sixth, but Bowdoin again scored two more in the bottom of the inning.
  • Nearly every player in the Bowdoin lineup had a multi-hit game. Fong-Picariello went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Bradley was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
  • Maddie Current pitched four innings and allowed four hits, three runs, with four strikeouts.
  • Ellie Sullivan pitched three innings with four hits and two runs.
