Men's Lacrosse Rolls to Conference Road Win at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Bowdoin College men's lacrosse team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a dominant 19-11 win at Connecticut College on Saturday.
 
The sixth-ranked Polar Bears improve to 4-1 (3-0 NESCAC) while the Camels fall to 1-3 (0-3 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin benefitted from a quick start in the win, scoring five times in a span of six minutes late in the opening quarter.
  • Will Byrne keyed the run with two goals and an assist, and Bowdoin carried a 5-1 lead into the second quarter.
  • The Camels used a 5-2 surge to close within 7-5 late in the period, but a goal by Patrick Fitzgerald in the closing seconds of the half gave Bowdoin an 8-5 advantage.
  • After Conn trimmed the lead to 8-6 out of the break, Bowdoin went on a decisive 6-1 run to close the third quarter, sparked by a faceoff win and goal by Beau Burns.
  • Bowdoin poured it on in the fourth quarter, scoring five straight goals to lead by as many as 11 on their way to the win.

  • First-year Casey Ryan had a breakout performance, scoring six goals and adding two assists to lead the Bowdoin scorers on Saturday.
  • Will Byrne added three goals and two assists while Jason Lach also had a hat trick.
  • Beau Burns won 14 of 25 faceoffs and collected a team-high ten ground balls.
  • Jack Pyne had two caused turnovers and four ground balls to lead the Polar Bear defense, which got 15 saves from Robert Hobbs in 55 minutes before being relieved by Jake Phillips (one save).
  • Bowdoin held a 56-42 edge in shots and 42-31 advantage in ground balls.

  • Bowdoin will head to Cambridge, Mass., on Tuesday evening to play at MIT at 7:00 p.m. before returning to Whittier Field on Saturday for a NESCAC clash with Amherst at 1:00 p.m.
