Polar Bears Remain Hot With Pair of Wednesday Wins

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Bowdoin softball team continued its hot start with two more victories on Wednesday.
 
The Polar Bears climb to 4-0 after defeating Coast Guard (0-1) by a 7-0 margin and capping the day with a win over Beloit (1-6) by a 7-2 margin.
 
Coast Guard Game Highlights
  • Coast Guard kept Bowdoin off the board until the fourth inning when Ellie Sullivan laid down an RBI groundout.
  • The Polar Bears capitalized on some misplays in the fifth to score four more runs.
  • Sydney Lang singled to left in the sixth to plate Anika Ewert and Elise Sciliano put the ball in play allowing Anna Halliday to score.
  • Sciliano went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. JK Bradley was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
  • Kathleen Hester pitched four shutout innings and allowed three hits. Hester fanned four batters. Maddie Current pitched three innings with two hits allowed and three K's.
 
UNE Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin and Beloit traded runs in the first inning. JK Bradley recorded the RBI single for the Polar Bears.
  • Bowdoin trailed for just the second time all season as Beloit earned a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third with another RBI single.
  • In the fourth, Shea Sullivan tied the game for the Polar Beas with an RBI double to center and later scored on a passed ball.
  • Anika Ewert and Sydney Lang each drove in runs during the fourth.
  • Sciliano scored in the fifth on a passed ball and Penelope Fong-Picariello closed out the scoring with an RBI single up the middle.
  • Ellie Sullivan pitched four innings with one earned run and five hits allowed. Halliday pitched three innings with three strikeouts and four hits allowed.
  • Font-Picariello was the lone Bowdoin player with a multi-hit game.
