Late Jumper By Achufusi Lifts Men's Basketball to Road Win at Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team closed the game on a 5-0 run to take a 61-57 win over Hamilton on Friday evening. The Polar Bears improve to 8-15 (2-7 NESCAC) while the Continentals fall to 10-13 (3-6 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Hamilton carried a 30-23 lead into halftime thanks to five three-pointers in the opening twenty minutes.
  • Bowdoin struggled from the field in the opening half but closed the gap quickly in the second half, trimming the Hamilton lead to 32-29 following and and-one by Michael Simonds just two minutes into the half.
  • Hamilton pushed the lead back to nine points, 41-32, at the 15 minute mark, but Bowdoin responded with a 9-0 run, knotting the game at 41 following a three-pointer by Michael Simonds just three minutes later.
  • The teams traded the lead until the final minute of regulation, when Hamilton took a 57-56 lead.
  • Bowdoin regained the lead for good when Afamdi Achufusi's jumper in the paint regained the lead at 58-57.
  • The Polar Bears clamped down defensively, holding Hamilton scoreless for the remainder and connecting on 3-4 free throws down the stretch to claim the win.

  • Bowdoin was led by 17 points and seven rebounds from Michael Simonds while Ben Chilson (12) and Kevin Reeves (11) also saw double figures.
  • Afamdi Achufusi flirted with double figures, finishing with nine points and four boards.
  • Reeves led Bowdoin with 15 boards on the day.
  • Bowdoin finished at 30% shooting for the game but came through from the free throw line, connecting on 24-31 compared to 8-14 for the home team.
