Men's Swimming & Diving Shatters Records at NESCAC Championship

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin men's swimming & diving team compiled 854.5 points to earn sixth place at the 2024 NESCAC Championship.
 
The Polar Bears combined to break 11 school records during the four day event.
 
Meet Highlights
  • The 800 free relay opened the meet with a bang as the quartet of Raphael Grand'Pierre, Dylan Zhang, Jaran Depew, and Steve Ward combined for a school record time of 6:46.99 and eighth place.
  • Jack Tran, Rhys Edwards, Alex Grand'Pierre, and Ward turned in a school record 1:21.10 in the 200 free relay, good for fifth place.
  • Alex Grand'Pierre put together another strong NESCAC Championship weekend with three individual school records in the breaststroke. Grand'Pierre broke his own record in the 50 with a 24.47 in prelims with a 24.56 and a championship finish in the finals. The prelim time set a new NESCAC record. Grand'Pierre's time of 53.52 in the 100 was good for another school and pool record, finishing ahead of the NESCAC recorder holder. Grand'Pierre missed out on the breaststroke sweep with a second place finish in the 200 with a school record time of 1:58.40.
  • Raphael Grand'Pierre set a new school record in the 100 fly with his prelim time of 49.67.
  • Tran finished fourth in both the 50 fly and the 50 back with times of 21.80 and 22.55, respectively.
  • Depew rewrote the longest-standing record in the Bowdoin record books with his time of 1:49.79 in the 200 fly. Depew finished fifth, just ahead of teammate Rhys Edwards.
  • The 400 medley team of Tran, both Grand'Pierres, and Ward set a new record with a time of 3:16.85. Tran broke his own 100 backstroke record in the leadoff leg.
  • The same foursome combined for a school record and third place in the 200 medley (1:28.93).
  • Bowdoin closed out the meet with a fourth place finish in the 400 free relay. The Grand'Pierre brothers, Micah Sher, and Tran set a new program record at 3:00.07.
