Men's Hockey Stays Strong in League Play With 2-2 Tie Against Amherst

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team battled through a back-and-forth game against Amherst to secure a 2-2 tie on Friday evening.
 
The Polar Bears are 11-4-4 (7-2-4) and extend their unbeaten streak in NESCAC play to eight games. The Mammoths are 11-7-1 (6-6-1) after their first time of the season.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin struck first at 12:52 in the first. Will Forrest passed to Bryce Bollman who fired a shot to the near left post. Michael Dinges shoveled the puck through to make it 1-0.
  • Amherst responded quickly with a goal less than three minutes later. Matt Vander Vort had the puck behind the net and passed up to Zachary Jesse on the right point. Jesse beat Alex Kozic inside the near post.
  • The Polar Bears regained the lead on the power play with 12 seconds remaining in the second period. Jesse Lycan passed to Patrick Callahan who fired a shot on net. Bryce Bollman tipped the puck in front of the crease to push Bowdoin out on top.
  • The Mammoths added a power play tally of their own to even the game midway through the third. Zachary Murray danced through a pair of defenders between the circles before spinning and put a shot away.
  • Kozic made a show-stopping save in the final 24 seconds of overtime to keep the game tied. Josh Burke got a quick tip on the puck on the far right post, but Kozic slid across the crease and closed out the gap.
 
By the Numbers
  • Kozic made 45 saves for the Polar Bears. The goalie was one save shy of his season-best of 46 stops, also put up against Amherst earlier this year.
  • Connor Leslie stopped 19 shots for Amherst.
  • Amherst was 1-for-3 on the power play.
  • Bowdoin went 1-for-2 on the power play.
