Swimming & Diving Teams Earn Third Place Finishes at Maine State Meet

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin men's and women's swimming and diving teams posted several outstanding individual results at the Maine State Meet en route to third places finishes for both teams.
 
The women scored 695.5 points to end in third behind Colby and UMaine. The men compiled 773.5 points for a third place finish behind UMaine and Bates.
 
Women's Meet Highlights
  • Natalie Garre's impressive first year as a Polar Bears continued as she smashed several records over the weekend. Garre set a program record in the 500 free (4:48.54) and smashed the pool record set during the 2022 NESCAC Championship (4:54.94).
  • Garre's 400 IM was a program and pool record (4:22.07) and led a Polar Bear podium sweep with Sydney Lillis (4:35.63) and Katie Coulter (4:35.64).
  • During the course of the 1650, Garre broke the 1000 free record (10:01.54) and toppled the pool record for the 1650 (16:31.90) set during the 2022 NESCAC Championship (16:57.13).
  • Garre also won the 200 free with a time of 1:52.48 and the 200 IM (2:05.74). Harper Stevenson finished in second with a 2:09.73.
  • Sydney Lillis broke her own meet record in the 200 fly (2:04.43) and finished third in the 100 fly (57.58).
  • Sadie Smith broke the 1meter 11-dive record with a score of 269.45. Smith finished with 259.95 in the 3meter.
  • Bowdoin capped the meet with a third place finish in the 400 free relay. Garre, Shannon McCall, Liv Smith, and Stevenson combined for a 3:32.49.
 
Men's Meet Highlights
  • The men opened the meet with a winning time of 1:22.46 in the 200 free relay. Micah Sher, Rhys Edwards, Raphael Grand'Pierre, and Penn Lee teamed up for the win.
  • Lee turned in a third place time of 24.78 in the 50 fly for his best individual result.
  • Jaren Depew won the 200 fly with a 1:52.59 and was joined by Edwards in third (1:54.91).
  • Phil Bianco covered the 1650 with a time of 16:31.22 for second place.
  • Grand'Pierre finished second in the 50 free (20.77) and third in the 100 (45.82).
  • In the 200 IM, Dylan Zhang snagged a third place result with a 1:53.71. Zhang then broke his own pool, meet and program records in the 100 IM with a 50.81.
  • Liam Roehr picked up a third place result in the 50 backstroke (23.75).
  • The men closed out the meet with a second place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:04.48. Edwards, Lee, Grand'Pierre, and Micah Sher put together the finish.
 
Bowdoin's 400 mixed medley relay took third place as Roehr, Lee, Stevenson, and Garre finished in 3:37.96.

  • Bowdoin is off until 2025 with a meet against Connecticut College.
