Men's Hoops Closes Out 2024 With Road Victory at Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team closed out 2024 with a 71-60 New Year's Eve road win at Gordon College on Tuesday afternoon. The Polar Bears stand at 8-3 overall this season while Gordon falls to 5-5.
 
Game Highlights
  • A defensive battle in the opening half saw the Polar Bears carry a slim 28-26 edge into the break thanks to seven points and seven rebounds from Chris Simonds in the first period.
  • Gordon stayed within striking distance in the second half, trailing by just four points, 37-33, five minutes into the frame.
  • Bowdoin took command after that, rolling off a 7-0 run, sparked by a three-pointer from Afamdi Achufusi, to push the lead to 14, 47-33, with 13 minutes to go.
  • Gordon could get no closer than seven points after that, as Bowdoin maintained a double-digit advantage for most of the remainder.

  • First-year Chris Simonds had a double-double off the bench, totaling a career-high 11 points and ten rebounds in the win.
  • Ray Cuevas scored a team-high 16 points while Kevin Reeves added 10 points and eight rebounds. Afamdi Achufusi, Will Logue, and James McGowan had eight points apiece.
  • Bowdoin rebounded from a cold-shooting first half to connect on 60% from the field in the second stanza, ending at 45% for the game while holding Gordon to 33%.
  • The Polar Bears also owned a 44-28 edge on the glass, cashing in 12 second chance points to key the win.
