Men's Basketball Uses Hot Shooting To Tame Lions

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team sprinted to an early lead and cruised to a 71-60 non-conference win over Emerson College on Friday afternoon in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears move to 9-3 this season while the Lions drop to 6-4 on the year.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin came out firing, shooting 63% from the field in the opening half and taking a 15-4 edge just 7:40 into the contest.
  • James McGowan had nine first-half points while Chris Simonds added eight as the Polar Bears built a 19-point halftime lead, thanks to a buzzer beating 40-footer from Ray Cuevas heading into the break.
  • The pace slowed in the second half as the Lions were able to chip away at the Bowdoin lead, closing to within 14 points, 57-43, with 8:40 remaining.
  • But a Cuevas dunk, followed by a three-pointer from Jaden Hill pushed the Bowdoin lead back to 19 points with under eight minutes to go. Emerson closed the game on a 10-3 run in the final 3:30 to trim the final margin to 11 points.

  • Twelve different Polar Bears got into the scoring column, led by 13 from Ray Cuevas, who also had five rebounds.
  • The balanced attack saw James McGowan finish with nine points and five boards, Chris Simonds end with eight and five caroms, Ben Chilson score eight with five boards, and Liam McBride add eight.
  • Bowdoin ended at 48% shooting for the game and held Emerson to 36% from the field.
  • The Polar Bears scored ten second chance points thanks to a 41-31 edge on the glass and got 39 points from their bench in the win.
