Cold Shooting Sinks Men's Basketball in Loss at Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season in a 65-51 setback at Bates on Tuesday night. The Polar Bears fall to 6-1 on the year with the non-conference loss to the Bobcats, who move to 3-4.
 
Game Highlights
  • Neither team could get their offense on track in a low-scoring opening half that saw the Bobcats take a 26-25 edge at the break.
  • After Bowdoin briefly took the lead out of halftime, the Bobcats answered with a 14-2 run that gave them the lead for good.
  • The Polar Bears got as close as seven points over the final 15 minutes but were doomed by cold shooting from the field in the eventual loss.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin finished at just 36% shooting from the field and 3-17 from long distance while Bates did just enough, shooting 44% and going 7-21 from three-point range.
  • Liam McBride led Bowdoin with 12 points while Ray Cuevas and Nolan Bessire each had six boards. Afamdi Achufusi had five assists.
  • The Polar Bears were also victimized by a tough night at the free throw line, going 6-19 from the stripe.
