Polar Bears End Semester With Double-Digit Home Win Against Salem

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team ended its first semester with a flourish, dominating from start to finish in an 82-62 win over Salem State on Saturday afternoon in Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears enter break with a 7-3 record while the Vikings fall to 3-9.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears wasted little time taking command of the game, opening the contest with nine straight points and pushing their lead to double digits, 14-4, following an Alex Halpern three-pointer just 6:30 into the game.
  • Bowdoin maintained that lead throughout the opening stanza, and Jaden Hill's trifecta in the final seconds before the break matched the Polar Bears' largest lead of the half – 20 points – 47-27.
  • The Polar Bears continued to play efficient basketball in the second half, shooting 50% from the field, pushing their lead to as many as 28 points, 63-35, with 14 minutes remaining.
  • Salem could get no closer than 16 points over the final ten minutes as Bowdoin cruised to the win.

  • The Polar Bears shot 52% from the field, held Salem to 35%, and cashed in 17 points off turnovers in the win.
  • Bowdoin had 26 assists on 36 made baskets, including a career-best 12 assists from Afamdi Achufusi, who also scored 13 points and had two steals.
  • A balanced Polar Bear attack saw Kevin Reeves add 14 points and 11 boards while Nolan Bessire notched a career-best 13 on 6-7 shooting from the field.
  • In all, thirteen different Bowdoin players scored in the victory.
