Women's Basketball Wraps First Semester With Road Win at Salem

SALEM, Mass. – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team pulled away in the second half, closing out their first semester with a 71-55 road win at Salem State on Thursday evening. The fifth-ranked Polar Bears stand at 8-0 this season after the win. Salem falls to 4-6 overall.
 
Game Highlights
  • Six first quarter points from Abbie Quinn and 7-11 shooting from inside the arc gave the Polar Bears a 21-13 lead after one quarter of play.
  • The Vikings chipped away at the lead in the second quarter, closing the gap to 35-29 at intermission.
  • Salem opened the second half on a 10-5 surge, closing the gap to a single point, 40-39, with 5:18 to go in the third.
  • Bowdoin took over from there, closing the quarter on a 12-1 run, sparked by a Grace Kinum three-pointer and closed out by seven straight points from Sydney Jones.
  • Salem never got the margin back to single digits after that as the Polar Bears led by as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter on their way to the win.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin closed out the game with authority, holding Salem State to 6-20 shooting and forcing eight turnovers over the final 15 minutes of play.
  • Sydney Jones finished with a game-high 18 points to go with eight rebounds, seven steals, and six assists.
  • Abbie Quinn finished with 17 points, eight boards, and two blocks, while Carly Davey had 12 points.
  • Callie Godfrey added seven points and eight boards while Grace Kinum had seven points and five caroms.
  • Bowdoin finished at 36% shooting for the game, but held Salem State to 31% and scored 19 points off 18 Viking turnovers.
  • The Polar Bears also scored 19 points on 20 offensive rebounds.

  • Bowdoin is off until later this month when they travel to play a pair of neutral-site games in Florida. The Polar Bears will face Denison at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29 and Emory at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30. Both games will be played at the St. Pete Catholic School in St. Petersburg, Fla.
