Men's Basketball Continues To Roll With Double-Digit Win at Husson

BANGOR, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team ran its record to 6-0 with an 82-69 win over Husson on Sunday afternoon. The Polar Bears match their best start to a season since 2017-18 while the Eagles fall to 2-5 on the season.
 
Game Highlights
  • A high-scoring first half saw Bowdoin take the lead for good on a three-pointer from Afamdi Achufusi with 3:20 to go in the period.
  • After Husson trimmed the Polar Bear lead to a single point, 40-39, Bowdoin closed the half on a 5-0 run, capped by a bank-shot three-pointer by Ray Cuevas before the buzzer.
  • Bowdoin clamped down defensively in the second half, holding the Eagles to just 31% shooting from the field as they slowly pulled away.
  • The Eagles stayed within striking distance early in the second half, until an and-one by Ray Cuevas sparked an 8-2 Bowdoin run that pushed the lead to double digits midway through the frame.
  • Husson had a chance to close the gap to single digits with under five minutes to play following a Bowdoin turnover, but Cuevas rushed back on defense and blocked a layup and, on the ensuing Polar Bear possession, James McGowan netted a three-pointer to push Bowdoin's lead to 14 points, 77-63, with under four minutes to go.

  • Ray Cuevas' torrid start continued, as he notched a new career high with 23 points, including 3-3 from beyond the arc.
  • Afamdi Achufusi scored 14 points with six rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks and Will Logue added 11 points with seven boards.
  • Bowdoin finished 47% shooting from the field for the game, including 10-20 from long distance and 14-18 from the free throw line.
  • Husson ended at 36% shooting and was held to 5-19 from long range.
