Polar Bears Skate Past SNHU in 4-1 Saturday Matchup

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team opened the Bowdoin Colby Classic with a 4-1 win over Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears improve to 3-2-0 while dropping SNHU to 4-5-0.
 
Game Highlights
  • SNHU came out and scored less than two minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Ryan Pomposelli buried a one-timer from the right point to inside the near post.
  • Bowdoin tied the game with one second remaining in the first period. Hunter Fetterolf looked to make a wraparound shot but dished to Jack Hepp for a quick shot in front.
  • Mattie Wierl gave the Polar Bears a 2-1 lead 2:44 into the second off a wrister to the top left shelf.
  • Midway through the frame, James Cerepak tallied Bowdoin's third goal of the game. Aidan Lyons fired a shot that missed wide and rebounded off the back boards and up ice to Cerepak. Cerepak buried the board bounce rebound.
  • Bowdoin continued to build on its lead with a goal at 2:12 in the third. Jack Moore wrapped behind the SNHU net and found Wierl for a shot in front. Wierl's shot rebounded to Jackson Holl for a conversation.
 
By the Numbers
  • George McMichael made 22 saves to earn a win in net for his first game of the season.
  • Collin Berke stopped 33 shots for SNHU.
  • Bowdoin held a 37-24 edge in faceoff wins.
  • Bowdoin went 1-for-1 on the power play. SNHU was 1-for-3.
