Garre Shatters Longest-Standing Record At Season-Opening Meet

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened the 2024-25 season with a home meet against Tufts on Saturday.
 
The women finished behind the Jumbos by a 183-116 margin. The men trailed 197-90.
 
Women's Meet Highlights
  • Natalie Garre shattered the oldest women's team record in the record books with a 10:07.48 in the 1000 freestyle. Later, Garre won the 200 free with a time of 1:54.90. Garre rounded out the meet with a 200 backstroke victory (2:05.33).
  • Sydney Lillis turned in a top individual time in the 200 fly, winning the race with a 2:06.57. Lillis also earned a first place finish in the 100 fly (58.85).
  • Ava Harrington finished second in the 100 free (54.66), followed closely by Shannon McCall (54.97).
  • Sadie Smith won both events for diving. Smith opened with a 266.91 point finish on the 1 meter and a 263.62 point showing on the 3 meter. Ursula Von Goeler finished second in the 1 meter with 261.22 points.
  • The Polar Bears wrapped up the meet with a second place 200 free relay time of 1:41.22. Garre, Liv Smith, McCall, and Ella Riccio combined for the event.
 
Men's Meet Highlights
  • The men's 200 medley relay started the meet with a second place finish and time of 1:35.04. Liam Roehr, Dylan Zhang, Raphael Grand'Pierre, and Micah Sher combined for the runner-up result.
  • Roehr swam to an individual victory in the 200 backstroke (1:56.34) and second in the 100 backstroke (53.38).
  • Zhang finished with an individual runner-up time of 1:57.13 in the 200 IM. Zhang also finished second (1:46.24) in the 200 free, behind teammate Jaran Depew who took first (1:44.87).
  • Depew added a second place finish in the 100 free with a time of 48.45.
  • Penn Lee and Grand'Pierre both finished in second in races of their own. Lee in the 100 breaststroke (58.72) and Grand'Pierre in the 100 fly (51.47).
  • Rhys Edwards won the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.75.
  • Bowdoin closed out the meet with a first place finish in the 200 free relay. Michael Mahedy, Getchell Gibbons, Henry Peters, and Depew combined for a 1:25.34.
