Women's Hockey Begins Season With 4-2 Win Over Wesleyan

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's ice hockey team opened the season with a 4-2 win at home against Wesleyan on Friday night.
 
The Polar Bears jump out to a 1-0-0 (1-0-0 NESCAC) record on the young season. The Cardinals drop to 0-1-0 (0-1-0 NESCAC) to begin the year.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears scored their first goal of the season under four minutes into play. Anyi Sun converted on a power play opportunity as she circled around the top of the left dot and drifted into the high slot. Sun slipped a shot through pads.
  • Bowdoin went ahead 2-0 at 7:25. Gia Massari made a flat redline pass to Ava Imposimato on the far post for a put-away goal.
  • Wesleyan cut the lead in half as Effie Tournas carried down the left side and sent a centering pass to Amelia Molin for a deflection on the right post.
  • With under a minute remaining in the first period, Wesleyan tied the game off a saucered backhanded shot from Molin that snuck through.
  • Bowdoin regained the lead off Sun's second goal of the game, coming 8:15 into the second. Sun worked the puck off the left boards and skated along the red line before handling in front of the crease and beating Jenna Guglielmi.
  • Meghan Britt scored her first collegiate goal two minutes into the third with a successful wraparound bid at the left post.
 
By the Numbers
  • Guglielmi made 17 saves for Wesleyan.
  • Sally Solotaroff-Webber made 29 stops to earn the win for Bowdoin.
  • The Cardinals held a 29-26 edge in the faceoff circle.
