Middlebury Second Half Comeback Deals Men's Soccer Setback

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's soccer team surrendered a second half lead and dropped a 4-2 decision to Middlebury on Saturday afternoon at Pickard Field. The Polar Bears drop to 4-3-2 (1-3-2 NESCAC) while the Panthers improve to 7-0-2 (4-0-2 NESCAC).
 
Match Highlights
  • The Panthers got on the board first as a give-and-go in Bowdoin's end resulted in a goal by Colin Dugan, assisted by Tyler Payne, just four minutes into the contest.
  • Bowdoin found its footing after that and controlled the majority of the first half from there, tying the game on a goal by Arthur Dos Santos off a nifty feed from Tyler Huck at 19:49.
  • Five minutes later, Carlton Steinberg finished off a loose ball in front to give Bowdoin the lead, 2-1, at 24:36.
  • The Polar Bears carried the lead through halftime and into the second half where a second yellow card was given to Bowdoin's Paul Cluskey, forcing Bowdoin to play a man down for the final 21 minutes of regulation.
  • Middlebury took advantage, peppering the net with three goals in a 12-minute span to regain the lead.
By The Numbers
  • Bowdoin owned a 5-3 shot advantage in the opening half but, with the extra man in the second half, Middlebury out-shot the Polar Bears 17-4.
  • Alex Ainsworth made five saves for Bowdoin while Jon Perez stopped two shots in the final 5:31. Joey Waterman made four stops for the Panthers.
  • Middlebury committed 16 fouls to Bowdoin's 11.
