Field Hockey Drops Overtime Decision to Wesleyan

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin field hockey team fell 3-2 to Wesleyan in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears are 5-8 (2-6 NESCAC), as the Cardinals sit at 9-4 with a 4-4 conference record.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead with under two minutes remaining in the first quarter.
  • Charlotte Crawford found an equalizer ten minutes into the second quarter. Emily Ferguson flipped a pass to Crawford on the left side for a finish.
  • Wesleyan regained the lead with minutes remaining in the third quarter. Brooke Miner was in the middle of Bowdoin's circle and made a short pass to the left where Kenzie Kelly drove home the ball.
  • Ferguson successfully converted on a penalty stroke in the final frame to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Helen Deretchin came up with the heroics for Wesleyan with a reverse chip in overtime to win the game
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin held a slight 8-7 edge in shots, but both teams put five shots on goal.
  • The Polar Bears earned ten penalty corners and allowed four.
  • Lauren O'Donald made a pair of stops.
