Men's Basketball Loses NESCAC Opener to Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin College men's basketball team lost an 88-67 decision to Wesleyan in its NESCAC opener on Friday evening in Connecticut. The Polar Bears fall to 6-8 (0-1 NESCAC) while the Cardinals improve to 9-4 (1-0 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears stayed within striking distance in the opening half, trailing by just three at halftime, 38-33.
  • Wesleyan opened the second half on an 8-2 run, pushing the lead to double digits at the 17 minute mark.
  • Bowdoin replied with a 12-4 surge, trimming the lead to five points on a layup by Natrel Allen, 52-47, with 12:30 to go.
  • The Polar Bears couldn't overcome Wesleyan's hot shooting, however, as the Cardinals rolled off a 10-0 run at one point, increasing their lead to 16 points and Bowdoin could get no closer.

  • Bowdoin finished at 45% from the field, including 47% from long distance in the game.
  • Wesleyan ended at 54% from the field and was able to take advantage of 20 Bowdoin turnovers into 32 points.
  • Kevin Reeves scored 14 points with four rebounds for Bowdoin and Ben Chilson added 13 points.
  • Michael Simonds had 11 points while James McGowan had nine points and a career-high 11 assists.
  • Wesleyan's Nicky Johnson led all players with 27 points in the game.
