Women's Hoops Builds Big Lead, Holds Off Husson in Non-Conference Win

BANGOR, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team held off a late rally by Husson to take a 68-64 win on Tuesday evening. The Polar Bears improve to 11-1 this season while the Eagles fall to 4-7.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin jumped to a 17-8 lead after one quarter of play, but Husson hung around in the opening half and trimmed the Bowdoin lead to 29-25 at halftime.
  • The Polar Bears scored 23 points in the third quarter, extending their lead to 52-44 on a last-second jumper by Callie Godfrey heading into the fourth.
  • Bowdoin opened the final period on a 9-2 run and pushed their lead to as many as 15 points with under four minutes to go.
  • The Eagles closed the game on a 13-2 run, but it proved too late, as they cut the final margin to four points on a three-pointer in the waning seconds of the game.

  • Sydney Jones was outstanding, scoring 23 points with eight rebounds, four steals, and three assists in the win.
  • Callie Godfrey continued her hot play, going 8-14 from the field and finishing with 16 points and four rebounds.
  • Maria Belardi scored 15 points off the bench for the Polar Bears, who overcame 38% shooting from the field by holding Husson to 37% and forcing 21 turnovers, scoring 25 points off Eagle miscues in the victory.
