Women's Basketball Coasts to Win Over Trinity in NESCAC Opener

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's basketball team handed Trinity its worst loss of the season in a 65-50 decision at Morrell Gymnasium on Saturday. The Polar Bears, who broke into the d3hoops.com Top 25 this week at #19, improve to 11-1 (1-0 NESCAC) while the Bantams fall to 8-5 (0-1 NESCAC).
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin came out of the gate firing, jumping to a 10-2 lead thanks to three-pointers from Callie Godfrey and Carly Davey.
  • The Polar Bears shot 46% from the field in the opening quarter and led 20-11 heading into the second period.
  • Bowdoin maintained their double digit lead throughout the second quarter, and got a last-second bucket from Abbie Quinn to take a 34-22 advantage into the half.
  • The Polar Bears opened the second half on a 16-4 run, extending their lead to as many as 24 points late in the third quarter.
  • Trinity could mounted a rally, but could never cut the lead back to single digits after that as the Polar Bears went 8-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice.

  • Bowdoin finished 43% from the field and held Trinity to just 38% in the game, including 2-8 from three-point range.
  • Carly Davey finished with 20 points, including a personal 10-point, third quarter run that pushed the Bowdoin lead over 20 points.
  • Sydney Jones ended with 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals in the victory while Callie Godfrey added 11 points and seven rebounds.
  • Jess Giorgio had seven points and eight boards, including three offensive rebounds as the Polar Bears finished with 12 second-chance points in the win.
