Men's Hockey Stumbles at UNE

Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Bowdoin men's ice hockey team suffered a 3-1 loss to nationally-ranked University of New England on Tuesday evening.
 
The Polar Bears are 9-4-2 following their third straight game against a top-ranked team. The Nor'Easters are 12-2-0.
 
Game Highlights
  • After a scoreless first period, Bowdoin broke through 6:51 into the second. The Polar Bears converted on the power play as Luke Wheeler, waiting in the low slot, took a feed from the right side and beat an out of position Billy Girard.
  • UNE answered with a short-handed goal midway through the frame. Nathan Chickering disrupted Bowdoin's play and earned a breakaway. Chickering's speed put him into a one-on-goal and he converted with a move to the left post and backhander.
  • The Nor'Easters went up 2-1 early in the third period. The power play unit for UNE found Jayden Price on the doorstep at 2:42.
  • UNE pushed its lead to two as Ryan Kuzmich skated the puck to the right dot and fed Juraj Elias coming down the middle. Elias quickly beat Alex Kozic to the blocker side.
 
By the Numbers
  • Kozic ended the day with 33 saves.
  • Girard stopped 35 shots for UNE.
  • Both teams went 1-for-6 on the power play.
