BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Amherst in its home opener on Friday night at Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears fall to 6-4 (1-3 NESCAC) while the Mammoths move to 4-6 (1-3 NESCAC) with the win.
 
Match Highlights

• Amherst handled Bowdoin by set scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-20.
• After gaining an early led in the opening set, Amherst broke it open with a 5-0 run midway through the frame to take a commanding 14-7 lead. Bowdoin used a late surge to close to within 24-22, fending off six set points before Amherst could close it out.
• The teams traded runs in the second set, with Amherst clinging to the lead throughout. Bowdoin closed to within 18-15, but a 4-0 answer by the Mammoths gave the visitors some cushion on their way to a 2-0 overall lead.
• Amherst opened the third set with a 7-1 lead but Bowdoin replied and tied the match at 9-9. Still tied at 16 apiece, Amherst scored three straight points to take the lead for good, and ended the match on a 4-1 run to clinch the win.

By The Numbers

• Skye LaMendola led Bowdoin with 14 kills and seven service digs.
• Mina Mittler had ten kills and Laure Lange added six.
• Ella Haugen dished out 38 assists and Maya White had 21 digs for the Polar Bears.
• Charlotte Rasmussen led Amherst with 20 kills on the night.
