Women's Soccer Mounts Second Half Comeback to Beat Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Samaya Bernardo scored in the 86th minute to complete the Bowdoin women's soccer come-from-behind victory in a 2-1 contest at Middlebury on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears improve to 4-1-2 (2-0-1 NESCAC) and drop the Panthers to 3-2-2 (0-2-1 NESCAC). Bowdoin snapped a four-game losing streak with a win last season. The Polar Bears have now won back-to-back contests against the Panthers.
 
Game Highlights
  • Middlebury struck first with a goal in the 25th minute. Sophia Cole rifled a shot into the upper right corner.
  • The Panthers nearly extended their lead a minute later, but the shot narrowly cleared the crossbar.
  • The Polar Bears ramped up their offensive pressure in the second half and nearly scored 20 minutes into the frame. Mary Rainey grazed the right side of the crossbar with a shot that then ricocheted out of bounds.
  • Bowdoin broke through and tied the game at 72:52 when Mia Williams slotted a shot into the lower righthand corner.
  • Bernardo came through with the game-winner in the final four minutes of play. Bernardo worked the ball in traffic and snaked a shot through the crowd into the bottom right 90.
  • Charlotte Iannone preserved the win with a save in the final 1:17 of regulation.
