Men's Soccer Rolls Past Southern Maine in Midweek Matchup

GORHAM, Maine – The Bowdoin men's soccer team continued the strong start to the season with a 5-1 win over the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday night.
 
The Polar Bears climb to 4-0-1 and drop the Huskies to 2-5-1. The Polar Bears own a 27-3-1 overall record against USM.
 
Game Highlights
  • Julian Juantorena gave Bowdoin the 1-0 lead in the 13th minute with a blast from dead center. Juantorena took a feed from Noah Alexander at the top of the box and rifled a shot to the top right corner.
  • Bowdoin doubled its lead in the 17th minute as Tyler Huck put away a pass from Carlton Steinberg. Steinberg received a massive lofted cross from the left side to the right post. Steinberg quickly controlled the ball and found an open Huck in the center.
  • The Huskies cut their deficit in half at 31:40. A free kick from midfield went into the box and Cyrus Blake put the ball past an off-balance keeper.
  • The Polar Bears opened up their lead once again in the 60th minute. Ronaldo Cabral took a free kick from six yards outside the box and buried the ball in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Bowdoin converted on a corner kick 18 minutes later. Kamar Burris-Khan sent the ball into play from the right corner and Paul Cluskey headed it from the opposite side. Alden Mehta found the ball in front of the net and quickly put it away.
  • Everett Horch, three defenders, and the goalie all jumped to make a play on an incoming feed. The ball bounced off a USM player, looping back and into the net for another Bowdoin tally.
 
By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin held a dominant 20-5 edge in shots and narrower 7-4 shots on goal advantage.
  • The Polar Bears teed up nine corner kicks to USM's one.
  • Alex Ainsworth made two saves in his start and 80 minutes of action. Grant Greisman played the final ten minutes and made one save in the final seconds of play.
  • Simon Gabaree made two saves in 78 minutes of play. Patrick Mansir played the final 12 minutes.
