Women's Soccer Collects First Win of 2023

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team handed Endicott its first loss of the season in a 2-0 win at home on Sunday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (1-0-1) scored their first goals of the season and spoiled a spotless season-opening stretch for the Gulls (3-1-0). They had not surrendered a goal in their first three games of the year.

Game Highlights
  • Stephanie Christianson wasted little time before breaking the 270 minute scoreless streak that Endicott arrived in Brunswick with. A free kick from the midfield was punched away by Rosalina Caliri, but the ball came to Christianson. Christianson played the ball down and connected with her own settling bounce for a shot that beat Caliri.
  • Tutun forced a key save by Caliri in the 23rd minute after running the length of the right side and around a defender for a clear look on net.
  • Greta Farkas gave Bowdoin an insurance goal in the 55th minute following a corner kick. Samaya Bernardo took the corner kick with the ball skirting long the grass to the crowd in the box. Cadence Lee put a shot off the hands of Caliri, but Farkas one-touched the rebound to make it 2-0.

By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin outshot the Gulls by an 18-3 margin, with a 10-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Polar Bears took a slight edge in corner kicks, with a 5-4 advantage.
  • Caliri made eight saves.
  • Charlotte Iannone stopped a pair of shots for the second straight shutout.
