Women's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw Against UNE

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening as the University of New England found a second half equalizer.

The Polar Bears (1-0-2) controlled the pace of play and allowed only one shot on net. The Nor'Easters (2-0-2) scored on their first shot of the game in the 62nd minute.

Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin put four shots on net in the opening 20 minutes of action and converted in the 23rd minute on a corner kick. Kyra Hacker served the ball from the left corner and Lo Hoglin elevated for a header on the near side. The ball tucked just inside the left post for a 1-0 lead.
  • Morgan Smiley had multiple promising looks on net, including a spin and left footed shot from the top of the box that narrowly missed the right post.
  • UNE tallied the tying goal in the 62nd minute. Tori Keyes raced down the field with a Bowdoin defender and pulled away deep in Polar Bear territory. Keyes got off a low shot that grazed the outstretched hands of a diving Charlotte Iannone and found the far left corner.
  • Bowdoin responded with sustained pressure and a Smiley breakaway that skidded just wide. Stephanie Christianson teed up a free kick from 10 yards outside the box and curled the ball just outside the upper 90 with five minutes to play.

By the Numbers
  • Bowdoin outshot the Nor'Easters by a 19-2 margin, with a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.
  • Bowdoin took eight corner kicks and never allowed a UNE set piece.
  • Sydney Gillingham made four stops for the visitors.
  • This was the first tie in the history of competitions between the two programs, with today's goal being the first Bowdoin has surrendered to UNE since 2014.
