MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin softball team suffered a series sweep at top-seeded Tufts on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (19-19, 9-9 NESCAC) dropped the opener 10-2 in six innings. The Jumbos (35-3, 16-1 NESCAC) snagged a 5-0 win in game two.
Game One Highlights
- Tufts jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, spurred by a triple and double. A single in the third drove in two more runs.
- The Jumbos opened up an 8-0 lead by the end of the fourth inning. Katryna Dukehart's double to right center in the fifth kept the Polar Bears alive with two runs.
- A run in both the fifth and sixth innings gave Tufts the 10-2 win in six innings.
- Duekhart was the lone Polar Bear with multiple hits.
- Anna Halliday suffered the loss with just one inning of work.
Game Two Highlights
- All five of Tufts runs came in the first inning. A passed ball allowed the first run of the game to score from third. An RBI single to left plated two more.
- The Jumbos capitalized on a fielder's choice and some Polar Bear errors to score two more.
- Only three Bowdoin players were able to record a hit in the game. Angelina Mayers, Sydney Lang, and Dukehart all notched a hit. Both Lang and Dukehart hit doubles.
- Maddie Current pitched the complete seven innings and allowed six hits. Three of the five runs were earned.
