Softball Suffers One-Run Loss to Colby in NESCAC Playoffs

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Bowdoin softball team saw the season come to an end in its first game of the NESCAC playoffs in a 5-4 setback to Colby.
 
The Polar Bears conclude the season with a 19-20 record after earning the five seed in the NESCAC with a .500 record in conference play.
 
Game Highlights
  • Bowdoin broke through first in the top of the second off an RBI double to left center off the bat of Shea Sullivan.
  • The Mules responded in the bottom of the third to tie it 1-1 off an RBI single to right.
  • Colby took the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning and extended the lead with a two-run homer in the sixth.
  • The Polar Bears nearly pulled off the rally with a three run seventh. Angelina Mayers drove in two runners, singling up the middle, and Sydney Lang tagged an RBI single to left.
 
By the Numbers
  • Lang was the sole Bowdoin player with multiple hits in the game. The Polar Bears stranded ten runners.
  • Lilly Armstrong and Sullivan both had extra-base hits.
  • Maddie Current suffered the loss in the circle with 5.1 innings of work. Current allowed ten hits and five earned runs, while striking out three.
  • Ava Biasotti pitched the final two outs of the bottom of the sixth and did not allow a hit.
