Baseball Forces Game Three With Doubleheader Split at Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin baseball team pinned a 10-4 setback on top-seeded Wesleyan in the second game of the best-of-three playoff series to earn a Saturday split and force game three.
 
The Polar Bears are 17-14 on the year and rebounded after dropping the series opener 8-4. The Cardinals are 17-18 on the season.
 
Game One Highlights
  • The two teams traded runs in the first inning as CJ Brito-Trinidad put Bowdoin on the board with an RBI single, but the lead was negated by an RBI groundout in the bottom of the inning.
  • Bowdoin went up 3-1 in the second as Luke Chessie scored on a passed ball and Stephon Simoes knocked in a run with a groundout to first.
  • Wesleyan answered with four runs in the third and another three in the fourth to open up an 8-3 lead.
  • Gabe Peckler scored the game's final run with a solo homer to right in the eighth.
  • Peckler and Nick Merrill both had a pair of hits.
  • Jason Bogdanos pitched six innings with 12 hits allowed and four strikeouts. Jake Sullivan pitched the final two shutout innings with no hits.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Bowdoin came out swinging in the first inning and went ahead 3-0. Chris Dirks tagged a two-run single to center and Lukas Tsai added an RBI single to right.
  • Kevin Murray pushed the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single to left in the second inning.
  • Wesleyan pulled within one during the bottom half of the second and evened the score with another run in the fourth.
  • The Polar Bears kept Wesleyan off the board for the remainder of the game and proceeded to score six more runs.
  • Liam Foley stole third and scored on an error and Kevin Murray added an RBI single in the sixth.
  • Foley plated Tsai in the seventh with a single to left.
  • Simoes added another RBI single in the ninth and Brito-Trinidad doubled to left center to cap the scoring with two more runs.
  • Simoes and Murray each had three hits in the game. Brito-Trinidad, Dirks, and Foley all had a pair of hits.
  • Jack Mullen went a complete nine innings with seven hits allowed and as many strikeouts.
 
Up Next
  • The two teams complete the series on Sunday at noon, with the winner advancing in the NESCAC Tournament.
