Baseball Drops NESCAC Tournament Opener to Tufts on Friday

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Bowdoin baseball team suffered a 13-6 loss to Tufts to open the double-elimination NESCAC Tournament hosted by Colby
 
Polar Bears (18-15) drop their first game of the double-elimination NESCAC Tournament and fall out of the winner's bracket. The NESCAC East leading Jumbos are 29-9.
 
Game Highlights
  • The Jumbos jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning off an RBI triple and exploded for eight runs in the second inning. The Jumbos strung together four hits and capitalized on three Bowdoin errors to amass a 9-0 lead.
  • Stephen Simoes put Bowdoin on the board with a two-run homer to right in the third.
  • Tufts went ahead 10-2 in the fourth.
  • Kevin Murray added another homerun for the Polar Bears, this time a three-run shot.
  • Tufts added three rebuttal runs in the fifth and Bowdoin scored the game's final run in the seventh inning.
 
By the Numbers
  • Simoes went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI.
  • Luke Chessie was 3-for-4 while Lukas Tsai was 2-for-4.
  • Jack Mullen started the game and allowed three earned runs off six hits in 1.2 innings of work.
  • Six pitchers took the mound after Mullen to cover the remainder of the nine-inning game.
  • Bowdoin allowed a total of 11 hits and six earned runs.
