BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College softball team will open play at the 2023 New England Small College Athletic Conference Championship beginning Saturday on the campus of Tufts University.
 
The fifth-seeded Polar Bears (19-19, 9-9 NESCAC) will play fourth-seeded Colby (23-13, 10-8 NESCAC) in the quarterfinal round at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Medford, Mass. The winner advances to the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. with the title game scheduled for Sunday at 11:00 a.m. All games will be broadcast live by the Northeast Sports Network.
 
Bowdoin is making its 13th NESCAC Tournament appearance. The Polar Bears will play Colby on Saturday in the first meeting between the two schools in the NESCAC postseason. The teams split the regular-season series, with Colby winning Game 1, 10-5, and the Polar Bears winning Game 2, 4-2.
 
Angelina Mayers has led the way for the Polar Bears offensively, batting .424 with a school-record 14 home runs and 45 RBI this spring. She paces a Polar Bear offense that ranks third in the NESCAC with 209 runs scored this year and also has Chloe Garcia (.391), Lilly Armstrong (.339) and Katryna Dukehart (.311) batting over .300 on the season. Pitcher Maddie Current leads Bowdoin in starts (14), wins (9), ERA (2.55) and strikeouts (51) this year.
