Softball Sweeps Series Against Trinity

BRUNSWICK, Maine. – The Bowdoin softball team earned its first NESCAC series sweep on Saturday with 10-2 and 2-1 wins over Trinity.
 
The Polar Bears climb to 14-12 (7-5 NESCAC) after holding off the Bantams (7-9, 2-2 NESCAC).
 
Game One Highlights
  • Trinity scored first with a run in the first, but Bowdoin answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
  • Katryna Dukehart tagged an RBI double to center and Shea Sullivan drove in a run with a groundout to second. Sydney long popped a single to right field that drove in a pair of runs.
  • The Bantams made it 4-2 in the third, but that was the end of their offensive production. Chloe Garcia responded with an triple down the right field line that drove in Angelina Mayers and Sullivan drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to right.
  • Angelina Mayers capped the game with a grand slam to right center in the fourth.
  • Anna Halliday pitched five innings and allowed six hits with two runs, strikeouts, and walks.
  • Lilly Armstrong was the only Polar Bear with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 at the top of the lineup.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Both teams were scoreless until the third inning. Trinity plated an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead and carry it into the bottom of the fifth.
  • Bowdoin found an equalizer and game-winner in the fifth as Sydney Lang made her way to third after reaching base on a hit by pitch. Halliday and Kyla Gary each singled to move the lead runner along. Armstrong plated Lang with a sacrifice fly to center. Halliday eventually scored on an error off JK Bradley's hit to third.
  • The Bantams had runners on second and third in the seventh inning, but Maddie Current worked out of the situation with a third out popup to second.
  • Gary went 2-for-2 and Mayers was 2-for-3 at the plate.
  • Current pitched all seven innings, allowing just one run off five hits.
