Softball Takes Two From UNE on Wednesday Night

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team swept visiting University of New England in a pair of midweek games on Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Polar Bears climb to 16-12 on the season after a walk-off 5-4 win in the first game and a commanding 11-5 win in a six-inning game two. The Nor'Easters drop to 6-18.
 
Game One Highlights
  • UNE went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first, but a Kartryna Dukehart RBI single to right evened the score in the bottom of the inning.
  • The Nor'Easters scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-1 edge. Bowdoin tied the game with one swing as Lilly Armstrong tagged a two-run single to center.
  • The visitors took the lead again in the top of the seventh, but RBI singles from Sydney Lang and Liv Barrett gave the Polar Bears the win.
  • Maddie Current pitched all seven innings and gave up three earned runs off four hits with six strikeouts.
  • Armstrong and Dukehart were both 2-for-3 at the plate. Lang went 2-for-4 and Barrett was 3-for-4.
 
Game Two Highlights
  • Bowdoin came out swinging in game two. Angelina Mayers put the Polar Bears on the board with a two-run homer in the first.
  • Bowdoin scored six more runs in the second. JK Bradley and Mayers each had an RBI single and Armstrong drove in two runs with a single to center. Bradley later scored on an error by the catcher to make it 7-0. Shea Sullivan put a sacrifice fly to right that plated Mayers.
  • UNE rallied with runs in the fourth and fifth innings to make it 8-5. Bowdoin came out in the bottom of the fifth and pushed three more runs across the plate.
  • Mayers was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Bradley went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI.
  • Anna Halliday pitched six innings and allowed eight hits with three strikeouts.
