MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin softball team turned in another NESCAC series split, this time at Wesleyan, on Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears are 17-13 (8-6 NESCAC) after dropping game one 6-4 and rebounding with a 5-1 victory in the nightcap. The Cardinals are 11-15 overall and 1-7 in NESCAC action.
Game One Highlights
- Bowdoin took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Katryna Dukehart drove in Lilly Armstrong and Chloe Garcia added a single to right that plated Dukehart.
- Wesleyan made it 2-1 in the second, capitalizing on a fielding error. The Cardinals put together a big third inning and went ahead 5-2, with every run being an earned run.
- The Polar Bears pulled within one during the fifth. Angelina Mayers and Dukehart each tagged an RBI single.
- Wesleyan capped the game with an RBI single in the fifth.
- No Bowdoin player recorded multiple hits in the game. Mayers had a stolen base.
- Kyla Gary hit a triple and Sydney Lang added a double.
- Maddie Current suffered the loss with a complete game and eight hits allowed.
Game Two Highlights
- The Polar Bears opened game two similarly to game one, with a Garcia RBI single.
- Lilly Armstrong had an RBI triple in the fourth to start a three-run inning for Bowdoin. Mayers added a double that plated Armstrong and Garcia drove in Mayers.
- Bowdoin scored its final run of the game in the sixth off the bat of Mayers and an RBI double.
- Wesleyan spoiled the shutout in the bottom of the seventh.
- Anna Halliday went the distance with seven innings pitched and three hits allowed. Halliday fanned six batters.
- Mayers led the way going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. Dukehart and Garcia both had a pair of hits.
