LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin softball team split its series with Bates on Friday afternoon.
The Polar Bears (12-12, 5-5 NESCAC) ran away with a 13-5 win in game one, while the Bobcats (8-6, 2-2 NESCAC) answered with a 13-1 win in game two.
Game One Highlights
- Lilly Armstrong got the Polar Bear offense going with a two-run homer to center in the top of the third. Chloe Garcia added an RBI double down the right field line to drive in Angelina Mayers and make it 3-0.
- Bates cut the margin to 3-2 in third and took a 5-3 lead in the fourth.
- Angelina Mayers added another homerun in the fifth and Maddie Current hit an RBI single to center that tied the game.
- Bowdoin continued to add runs as the fifth continued. Armstrong had an RBI single and JK Bradley drove in two more runs, singling to left. Armstrong eventually scored on a wild pitch.
- Sydney Lang tagged the Polar Bears' third homer of the game with a blast to right center for three more runs in the sixth.
- Current was able to score from third on a wild pitch.
- Current pitched a complete game with three earned runs and three strikeouts.
- Armstrong was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Shea Sullivan was 3-for-3. Lang went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Current also went 2-for-4.
Game Two Highlights
- Bates raced to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first and did not look back.
- The Bobcats added two more runs in the second.
- Angelina Mayers hit her second homerun of the day for a run in the top of the fourth.
- Bates responded with six more runs to put the game out of reach.
- Katryna Dukehart, Sullivan, and Mayers were the only three to record a hit.
- Anna Halliday suffered the loss, giving up seven runs off five hits.
