Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Fitzgerald's Record Night Leads Men's Lacrosse to Blowout of Bates

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Patrick Fitzgerald tied a program record with eight goals as the Bowdoin men's lacrosse team pummeled Bates, 22-9, on Wednesday night at Whittier Field. The 14th-ranked Polar Bears move to 7-3 (3-3 NESCAC) this spring while the Bobcats fall to 1-8 (0-6 NESCAC).

Game Highlights
  • The Polar Bears recorded a season-high in goals and left little doubt from the jump on Wednesday night.
  • Peter Kenerson got the scoring started for Bowdoin just 19 seconds into the contest and the Polar Bears cruised to an 8-1 advantage after one quarter of play.
  • A five-goal flurry by Fitzgerald in the second quarter pushed Bowdoin's lead to 16-4 at the break, and the Polar Bears continued to roll in the second half en route to the victory.
By The Numbers
  • Fitzgerald's eight goals ties the school mark achieved ten times by nine different players, most recently by Will Byrne and Donal Mullane last season.
  • The 13-goal win was the largest margin of victory for Bowdoin over their Lewiston neighbors since an 18-5 win in 1995.
  • In addition to Fitzgerald's eight goals, Will Byrne added five goals and three assists while Jason Lach had three goals and one assist.
  • Ethan Barnard won 17 of 26 faceoffs, picked up six ground balls and had a goal and two assists for the Polar Bears while Zack Goorno had a team-best seven ground balls.
  • Robert Hobbs made 13 saves, allowing just eight goals in 52 minutes of play before giving way to Jake Phillips, who made one save in the final eight minutes of action.
Up Next
  • Bowdoin will return to play on Saturday at Trinity at 1:00 p.m.
